An Introduction to Semiotic-Conceptual Analysis with Formal Concept Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a formalisation of Peirce’s notion of ‘sign’ using a triadic relation with a functional dependency. The three sign components are then modelled as concepts in lattices which are connected via a semiotic mapping. We call the study of relationships relating to semiotic systems modelled in this manner a semiotic-conceptual analysis. It is argued that semiotic-conceptual analyses allow for a variety of applications and serve as a unifying framework for a number of previously presented applications of FCA.

Signs and Formal Concepts
In this paper we propose a semiotic conceptual framework which is compatible with Peirce’s definition of signs and uses formal concept analysis for its conceptual structures. The goal of our research is to improve the use of formal languages such as ontology languages and programming languages. Even though there exist a myriad of theories, models and implementations of formal languages, in prac...
متن کاملA Parallel between Extended Formal Concept Analysis and Bipartite Graphs Analysis
The paper offers a parallel between two approaches to conceptual clustering, namely formal concept analysis (augmented with the introduction of new operators) and bipartite graph analysis. It is shown that a formal concept (as defined in formal concept analysis) corresponds to the idea of a maximal bi-clique, while a “conceptual world” (defined through a Galois connection associated of the new ...
متن کاملA Semiotic-Conceptual Analysis of Conceptual Learning
While learning mathematics or computer science, beginning students often encounter significant problems with abstract concepts. In both subjects there tend to be large numbers of students failing the class or dropping out during the first semesters. There is a substantial existing body of literature on this topic from a didactic perspective, but in our opinion an investigation from a semioticco...
متن کاملSemiotic Approach to Globalization: Living in a World of Glocal Things
This paper is an effort to discuss the concept of glocalization from a semiotic point of view. In order to carry out a semiotic analysis of globalization or glocalization, first globalization needs to be defined from a semiotic perspective. Therefore, first an explanation of globalization and glocalization in semiotic terms is provided. Some believe the ongoing process in the world cannot be be...
متن کاملInterdisciplinary Approaches to the Concept and Practice of Written Text Documentary Content Analysis (Wtdca)
Content analysis, restricted within the limits of written textual documents (WTDCA), is a field which is greatly in need of extensive interdisciplinary research. This would clarify certain concepts, especially those concerned with "text", as a new central nucleus of semiotic research, and "content", or the informative power of text. The objective reality (syntax) of the written document should ...
